The average woman spends more than $300 a month on beauty products and cosmetic procedures, according to surveys. This equates to about $3,700 per year and over $220,000 over a lifetime, although many expense items can be replaced by household procedures. At the very least, we can all make our own face masks with natural ingredients instead of buying them.
At Herewere, we’re all for spending time at home in a useful way, so here are some recipes that can compete with store-bought face products.
1. Peppermint and orange peels for smoothness
Ingredients:
- Some fresh mint leaves
- orange peels
- 1 teaspoon of honey
Method:
Beat everything in a blender and gently apply it to the skin. The mask is excellent for cleaning the pores and leaving the skin soft and smooth. Peppermint is an antibacterial, is good for acne-prone skin, and also reduces redness. Orange peels are rich in vitamin C, which can pull the dirt out of your pores and give your skin a healthy glow.
2. Soothing ginger turmeric mask
Ingredients:
- 1/2 teaspoon powdered ginger
- 1/2 teaspoon saffron
- 1 teaspoon organic raw honey
- A little fresh lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon vegan milk
Method:
Mix all the ingredients in a small bowl to make a thick liquid. Apply on the face and leave for 20 minutes. Rinse with warm water and then apply a moisturizer.
3. Oatmeal and clay for moisturizing
Ingredients:
- 2 tsp clay
- 1 tbsp mineral water
- 1 tsp almond or avocado oil
- 1 tbsp oatmeal
Method:
Mix the clay with oil and then put it in the oatmeal. Add a little mineral water to create a thick liquid. Apply on clean skin and let it act for 15 minutes. Then rinse and moisturize your skin with your favorite cream.
4. Cucumber mask to combat swelling
Ingredients:
- 1/3 cucumber
- 2 stalks of aloe vera
- 1 tsp of olive oil
Method:
Rub the cucumber on a grater, add chopped aloe vera and add olive oil. Spread evenly with a brush on the face. Leave it on for 15 minutes and then wash it off with lukewarm water. Place the remainder in a small container and store in the refrigerator.
5. Banana face mask for calm skin
Ingredients:
- 1/2 mashed banana
- 1 tsp honey
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 2 tbsp greek yogurt
Method:
Mix all the ingredients until well combined, apply on the skin and leave for 15 minutes. Rinse your face well with lukewarm water.
6. Papaya mask for brighter skin
Ingredients:
- 3 tbsp papaya puree
- A splash of lemon juice
Method:
Mix all the ingredients in a small bowl to make a thick liquid. Apply to the face and leave for 7-10 minutes, rinse with warm water and apply a moisturizer. Papaya’s natural acids gently exfoliate the skin and help clear pores. Although keep in mind that fresh citrus fruits can be allergenic.
