What Happens When You Start Washing Your Face With Water Only

In the quest for glowing skin, we can end up buying hundreds of skincare products. Cleansers, moisturizers, masks, oils – so many opportunities to look young and fresh. However, we are sorely disappointed when a cream we had such high hopes for completely ruins our skin. Believe it or not, an overlooked friend has been within reach all this time: good old-fashioned water.

1. You get smooth skin.

Cleansers can be the cause of flaky skin. They literally strip your skin of its natural oils, leaving your skin dry and itchy. If you notice that your skin is tight or reddened, you might want to put your cleanser aside for a while and stick with just water.

2. You get fewer pimples.

You might think that cleansers help reduce the oil on your face, but interestingly, they actually do the exact opposite. When your skin is dehydrated, it automatically produces more oil. As a result, your skin cracks, and your pores dilate. On the contrary, cold water is said to reduce sebum (oil) production and even reduce inflammation.

3. Your skin will look younger.

Cold water tones the skin and slows down the aging process. Make sure not to use hot water as it can damage the skin and cause further problems. Soaps and cleaning products that are generally alkaline (pH between 9 and 11) corrode the skin and cause it to lose elasticity. In the end, you end up with wrinkles.

4. You don’t get allergic reactions.

It can be a real challenge to find a cleanser suitable for sensitive and allergy-prone skin. Unfortunately, there’s only one way to know if it looks good on you: try it on. Some cleaning products can cause chemical burns and allergic reactions, and you may not develop a reaction right away; it can happen over time.
