We’ve all seen these extremely popular beauty tips and tutorials on the internet. Some of them actually seem to be very effective, but others leave you speechless and thinking that you would never experience them. We wanted to know if any of these tips really work or not. So this is what we did.
We picked the 10 most popular beauty hacks and asked our author Diana to give them a try.
Beauty Hacks Every Girl Needs
The tutorial says that you will have longer and thicker lashes if you put a little powder on them before using the mascara.

My lashes really gained volume and length, maybe even too much because some of them were glued together. Perhaps if you use a clean comb to brush and part your lashes, the above-mentioned method for a dramatic look will work well.
A Layer Of Cornstarch Will Mattify Your Shiny Lipstick.

The tutorial suggests that we apply a coat of lipstick and then apply some cornstarch. Despite my rather pessimistic expectations, I got the matte effect we were looking for. However, it didn’t feel good on my lips, I could still feel the grainy texture and it also tasted strange.
I wouldn’t use this method on a daily basis for my beauty routine, but I suppose it can come in handy if you have a photoshoot.
Use Some Scotch Tape When Applying Eyeliner And Shadows.

Roman, our photographer, suggested that I put some tape on my hand first to avoid irritation and remove the tape more easily.
And, I admit, it was great advice. Using the duct tape trick, I applied the shadows quickly and got a crisp cut. I think it will get better with practice. Result: I can recommend this method and will probably use it myself.
Use Men’s Sensitive Aftershave Balm As A Makeup Primer.
Even beauty experts who have millions of followers on their blogs have gone crazy using a popular brand of men’s aftershave balm as a makeup primer.
I applied an aftershave balm to one half of my face, a foundation to the other half, and a light coat of foundation to the entire face.
Truth be told, I didn’t notice any difference at first, but the balm smelled like alcohol and came in a non-pump bottle, so it was difficult to dispense the liquid.
We photographed my makeup after five hours in the office and a long walk that involved excessive sun exposure. The two sides of my face looked almost the same, but the balm side was a little oilier.
I’m not recommending this trick because I’m not sure how aftershave and primer affect our skin. It looks good, but if the aftershave balm works almost as effectively as a foundation, maybe we can apply some cream or moisturizer to the face before using the foundation?
You Can Turn An Eye Pencil Into A Liquid Eyeliner If You Hold It Over A Flame.
Forget about fine, precise lines with this method! The pencil I used melted really fast and the lines I drew got thicker. It’s not worth it, from my point of view.
Mix Your Nail Polish With Cornstarch And You’ll Get A Matte Nail Polish.

I mixed some nail polish with cornstarch and the result I got was not very pretty. My nails were covered in a grainy solution, not even close to what we call matte polish.
I think I can still see those cornstarch pellets. I think I will never use the tip and I do not recommend it.
If You Stir Eyeshadow And Nail Polish Together, You Can Get A New Color.

We just scrape some shadow onto a plate and add some clear glaze. The main problem was mixing the ingredients until the polish was completely dry. As a result, we could not get the correct texture and many stains remained.
I admit we used cheap glitter eyeshadow so the color we took turned out to be a mess. However, I think you can get more decent results if you try different colors. Also, it may be a good idea to use a whole bottle of rinse aid.
You Can Get A Perfectly Straight Line With A Piece Of Scotch Tape.
It seems like a very easy thing to do, doesn’t it? Put a piece of masking tape on the nail, paint, remove the tape, and voila! A perfect line. Well, I can assure you that it is not that easy.
Tried this trick several times, but with no luck. Maybe I did something wrong so I leave a question mark on this hack.
Use A Couple Of Bobby Pins To Make Your Ponytail Look Better.

Definitely not worth it. It doesn’t matter side up or side down, those clips hurt my head so much I can’t stop thinking about them. Who the hell came up with this tip?
If You Braid Wet Hair And Blow Dry It, You’ll Get Wavy Hair.

I have wavy hair, so to test this trick I had to straighten some of it first. I braided my wet hair and followed the instructions. The photo shows that my natural wavy hair looks way better.
The braids didn’t turn into cool waves, and I ended up with dry straw-like hair. So the braid trick didn’t work on me, and I’m guessing it won’t work on any girl with wavy hair.
Bonus: Shaving Secret Hacks

- Shave Downward, Then Upward. It’ll Prevent Razor Bumps And Burns.
- Shave after showering to minimize skin irritation. The steam opens your pores so you can shave easily.
- Use hair conditioner instead of shaving cream if you run out.
