When we choose healthy food in the supermarket, we expect to buy something useful for ourselves and our families. But research shows that even the most common foods can be dangerous.
HereWere made a list of foods that can harm your body and found ways to avoid the problems and enjoy all the tasty foods you love.
6. Lettuce
Scientists at the Center for Science in the Public Interest analyzed statistics from the last 12 years. They were trying to figure out which foods led to the most cases of food poisoning.
Lettuce turned out to be number one. It was responsible for 363 outbreaks with 13,568 known cases of poisoning. Therefore, even if the lettuce is well packed and “ready to eat”, it is still best to wash it very well before putting it on the plate.
5. Eggs
Salmonella infection that can spread to eggs from an infected chicken’s feces can be dangerous, especially for children, the elderly, and people with weak immune systems. If you notice that the shell is not perfectly clean, spend a minute washing the egg before stirring and feeding the whole family.
4. Chicken
One drop of raw chicken meat juice contains enough Campylobacter bacteria to infect a person. This bacteria causes fever and gastrointestinal problems. The bacteria spread very quickly when we wash meat because it ends up on our hands, aprons, counters, etc.
To be on the safe side, you should minimize contact with the raw chicken and wash the cutting board and knives from the rest of the dishes. (we even suggest washing them in boiling water).
3. Tuna
When fish is thawed and stored improperly, a toxic protein called scombrotoxin is formed. It can cause a type of food poisoning that leads to rashes, vomiting, stomach pains, diarrhea, increased heart rate, and even loss of vision.
The solution: You must defrost the tuna without letting it come into contact with the air. Remove from the freezer and place on the lowest shelf of the refrigerator without opening the package. A fish that weighs 4 pounds will take about 24 hours to thaw.
2. Ground meat
Experts have found traces of antimicrobial drugs, E. coli, salmonella, and listeria in ground beef. That’s why it’s best to make thin, flat pieces of meat and fry them.
1. Soda
In addition to obesity and liver damage, another reason why you should stop drinking soda is the effect it has on your bones. Soft drinks contain phosphoric acid and caffeine, which lead to decreased bone mineral density (BMD) and eventually osteoporosis.
